Description: During Desert Shield and Desert Storm the 2nd Battalion of the 1st Air Defense Artillery deployed with the Hawk surface-to-air missile system. Among many of the incidents that took place was The Big Jump West, the destruction of one of the HIPIRs, scud alerts, a chemical "attack" and the slow convoy north into Iraq. 2-1 ADA was also equipped with the Alpha system, a secret weapon which used passive monitoring to detect and destroy enemy aircraft.
