A little gem of a waterfall at Girrakool in the Brisbane Waters National Park on the Central Coast of NSW, Australia. Thanks to Wazza & Dave for the great company & to Wazza for the wet weather gear. Stylidium (also known as triggerplants or trigger plants) is a genus of dicotyledonous plants that belong to the family Stylidiaceae. The genus name Stylidium is derived from the Greek stylos (column or pillar), which refers to the distinctive reproductive structure that its flowers possess. Pollination is achieved through the use of the sensitive "trigger", which comprises the male and female reproductive organs fused into a floral column that snaps forward quickly in response to touch, harmlessly covering the insect in pollen. Most of the approximately 300 species are only found in Australia, making it the fifth largest genus in this country. After a fairly dry spell in the area, the waterfalls are lacking their usual flow. This waterfall at Lawson still put on a good display. Will have to get back after some rain. Fort Denison as seen from a passing ferry. The tiny island on which the fort stands was known to the Aboriginal people as Mat-te-wan-ye or Mallee’wonya. It was called Rock Island after the First Fleet arrived in 1788, but came to be known as Pinchgut after the convict Thomas Hill was sentenced to a week on bread and water in irons there. Once a 15 m high sandstone rock, the island was flattened as prisoners under the command of Captain George Barney, the civil engineer for the colony, quarried it for sandstone to construct nearby Circular Quay. Taken on the National Pass track in the Blue Mountains a couple of years ago. These grasstrees are so typically Australian, so I tried to fit it into the scenery on a few shots. A view of Sydney Harbour Bridge & the Opera House from near Luna Park, Sydney, NSW, Australia. I took a similar photo years ago & liked it, so just had to get a shot with the better camera. This was a mild, sunny autumn sunday & there were lots of people out & about enjoying the day after a long wet period. I decided to leave the people in the shot to give it a more personal feel. Gardens Of Stone National Park next to Wollemi National Park from a trip a few years ago. I loved the beautiful mountain vistas in this area. As you can see the truck was kicking up a bit of dust. Strangely and appropriately this graffiti was on a car park. In fact the graffiti was 100% correct as the car park is in the Christchurch earthquake red zone and there should be zero cars now inside it. It may have been put on by an anti car protester or just an indication that the car park is empty. One of the suggestions for the City plan for the rebuilt Christchurch was for a pedestrian and cycle only area, which also fits in with 0 CARS.
