Built in 1872 and restored in 2013, the Bodie Island Lighthouse is one of the few brick lighthouses remaining in the U.S. It is now owned and operated by the National Park Service and is within the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Visitors are allowed to climb the 214 steps once a month, and full moon climbs are sometimes offered.
