Tove Jansson (1914-2001) was a Finnish-Swedish artist and writer, best known for creating the Moomin series of children's books. However, her artistic career spanned a wide range of mediums and styles.

Jansson was trained as a painter, and her early work was primarily in the form of illustrations and cartoons for newspapers and magazines. In the 1940s, she began creating the Moomin characters, which were originally featured in a series of books, but later became the subject of comic strips and television shows. Jansson's Moomin illustrations are known for their whimsical and colorful style, and the characters she created are beloved by generations of children.

In addition to her work on the Moomin series, Jansson continued to create paintings, drawings, and other artworks throughout her career. Her style varied widely, from abstract landscapes to intricate pen-and-ink drawings, but all of her work displayed a unique and playful sensibility. She also wrote several novels and short stories for adults, many of which dealt with themes of identity, freedom, and artistic expression.
