Description: This piece features a red and blue interpretation of a native Australian plant—one I’ve painted from life in my own garden, though the name escapes me now! What stays with me more than plant names are the forms, textures, and the emotional response they stir in me as I observe them closely. I don’t aim for botanical accuracy in my work. Instead, I use colour expressively, often exaggerating or completely shifting the palette to reflect how a plant feels rather than how it looks. In this artwork, I’ve pushed the natural colouring far beyond reality, using bold reds and deep blues to reimagine the plant in a more vibrant, emotional context.
