Description: The Air Defense Artillery branch of the US Army specializes in anti-aircraft weapons (such as surface to air missiles). In the US Army, these groups are composed of mainly air defense systems such as the Patriot Missile System, Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD), and the Avenger Air Defense system which fires the FIM-92 Stinger missile. The Air Defense Artillery branch descended from Anti-Aircraft Artillery (part of the U.S. Army Coast Artillery Corps until 1950, then part of the Artillery Branch) into a separate branch on 20 June 1968. On 1 December 1968, the ADA branch was authorized to wear modified Artillery insignia, crossed field guns with missile.

Description: The FIM-92 Stinger is a man-portable air-defense system (MANPADS) that operates as an infrared homing surface-to-air missile (SAM). It can be adapted to fire from a wide variety of ground vehicles and helicopters (as an air-to-air missile). Developed in the United States, it entered service in 1981 and is used by the militaries of the United States and 29 other countries. It is principally manufactured by Raytheon Missile Systems and is produced under license by EADS in Germany and by ROKETSAN in Turkey, with 70,000 missiles produced.
Description: The 44th Air Defense Artillery Regiment is an Air Defense Artillery regiment of the United States Army, first constituted in 1918 in the Regular Army. During World War II the unit served as the 54th Coast Artillery Regiment (Colored), a segregated unit with mostly African American enlisted men and white officers, one of the few African American artillery units in that war.

Description: In May 1967, the group was reactivated at Fort Riley, Kansas as the 108th Artillery Group and deployed to the Republic of Vietnam in October 1967. The Group participated in every major operation conducted in I Corps area of operations and credited with participation in eleven different campaigns while in Vietnam. For its service it was awarded the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. The 108th departed from Vietnam on 22 November 1971 for Fort Lewis, Washington, where the unit was again inactivated.

Description: Single-sided design. 44th ADA traces its lineage back to WWI, where it saw service with the Coast Artillery Corps in France. They returned to France in 1944 and units saw service in the Pacific as well. The 44th was in action in Korea throughout the fighting and also throughout the Vietnam War.

Description: The 7th ADA was organized during the Spanish-American War and has the distinction of being the first U.S. Coast Artillery Corps unit in WWI to open fire... on the Western Front. Using railway guns. This was, in fact, the CAC's biggest contribution to the war effort, providing heavy artillery support to doughboys. Campaign credits include WWII, Korea and Vietnam. It has been equipped most recently with the HAWK and Patriot missile units and saw service in Desert Storm and (I believe) Southern Watch. This unit crest comes in left and right versions.

It was reorganized as Coast Artillery Corps during the Spanish-American War, when it was thought that foreign navies might attempt to strike the United States. Units saw service in WWII and the Korean War.
Description: During Desert Shield and Desert Storm the 2nd Battalion of the 1st Air Defense Artillery deployed with the Hawk surface-to-air missile system. Among many of the incidents that took place was The Big Jump West, the destruction of one of the HIPIRs, scud alerts, a chemical "attack" and the slow convoy north into Iraq. 2-1 ADA was also equipped with the Alpha system, a secret weapon which used passive monitoring to detect and destroy enemy aircraft.
