Elias Motsoaledi (26 July 1924 – 9 May 1994) was a South African anti-apartheid activist and one of the eight men sentenced to life imprisonment at the Rivonia Trial. The Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality in Limpopo province was named for him. He joined the Leather Workers' Union, served on the Committee of Non-European Trade Unions, and later played an active role in the establishment of the South African Congress of Trade Unions. He met David Modibane who had been an Organiser for the South African Clothing Workers Union since 1940, which later became Clothing Workers Union (SA). Another part of South Africa's more recent history is marked by “apartheid”, an Afrikaans term to express the segregation caused by white domination over the black population in that country. Thus, when the South African Union was established in 1910, the Union's Constitution already provided for the prohibition of voting for non-white Africans residing outside the Cape region. South Africa started to stand out economically after the end of economic embargoes imposed by the UN to that country. Due to the immense ethnic diversity that constituted the culture of South Africa during the several centuries of its history, this country has a wide cultural and religious range.

He was a member of the African National Congress (ANC). He was sent to Robben Island in 1966 because of his political activities. He was murdered by the Apartheid government agents led by Dirk Coetzee in Umlazi township south of Durban. He had multiple stab wounds and his body was found near the soccer field in Umlazi. He was married to Victoria Mxenge, who was later also assassinated.
