Description: Black and white ink drawing of a Showa Sanshoku (昭和三色) koi. This variety of nishikigoi have black bodies with red and white markings. This illustration is hand-drawn using fine ink pens and was made using thousands of tiny dots in a stippling technique. This is piece is part of a small collection of different koi, I researched some of the most popular varieties and worked from a variety of reference photos to create drawings to match these breeds. Koi carp are ornamental fish which are popularly kept for decorative purposes in ponds and traditional Japanese gardens. Through selective breeding many different breeds and varieties of koi have been achieved in a variety of colours and patterns.
