Description: This image of sunset in over Cataloochee Valley is drawn from my photograph and inspired by silkscreen designs, campy paint by numbers we all did as kids, and love for the state and national parks. Cataloochee Valley is part of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The road into the valley is a narrow gravel road with lots of hairpin curves, but it’s lovely once you get to the bottom. This is the area where they reintroduced elk and there are lots of bears as well. Be there at dawn or dusk to see the elk. Note that it is very busy during October when the elk are mating and the leaves are turning. Bathrooms are limited to composting toilets. Take your own chairs.
