In the early 1960s, the company felt that the future of retailing would be in covered shopping centers (otherwise known as shopping malls). The first Paul Harris Store located in a mall was in Akron, Ohio. Paul Harris Stores went bankrupt in 2000.

Description: Contempo Casuals was launched in the ’60s by a resourceful couple that spun a liquidated variety store called Bargain Town into a women’s clothing shop that specialized in fresh, hip styles. The brand grew from one store in Granada Hills, Calif. with pink walls and red carpet to a thriving chain. The brand was marked with hand-drawn, avant-garde advertisements depicting high-fashion women. From the mid-60s to the mid-80s, women of all ages showed up at Contempo Casuals looking for the latest styles.
Description: Time Travelers opened their doors at 1511 2nd Avenue in Downtown Seattle back in 1977 with a focus on everything that parents hate, and it was truly glorious. With a perfect mix of punk records, skateboards, weird comic books, and t-shirts to go along with all of the above, Time Travelers had it all. This was a unique space for the kids who either didn't fit in with the mainstream, or simply didn't want to. Time Travelers managed to exist in what is considered prime real estate nowadays throughout the '80s and into the '90s before exorbitant rent increases made the store's very existence an impossibility.
