I’m from Trinidad & Tobago so when I think about independence, I think about slave rebellions, rough sea waters, angular structures trying to contain a transplanted people. But the fight applies to every country and every person that has ever sought to be recognised as independent. So whether it’s 4th of July, Bastille Day, or a first time mum ditching her mum’s parenting advice, we all pace the walls of the angular structures that hem us in and decide whether we’re happy with the space we’ve been given or if we need to blow the walls out, or make a small hole to slip through and escape. Whether it’s mental, emotional, political, physical… whatever or whomever we seek independence from, there is a fight.

This was a photo I took of an orchid that looked rather mundane. I decided to make it into what I thought it should be.

Due to habitat degredation, people are encouraged to put out nectar feders for hummingbirds, particularly for those which migrate to and from South and Central America to the United Sates. One of the many Ginger plants which are wide spread in tropical areas. Growing in the Casa Orquideas Botanical Gardens which is one of the oldest and most interesting botanical gardens in the Golfo Dulce region of Costa Rica. The gardens include hundreds of different species of tropical plants such as palms, heliconias, orchids, exotic fruit trees, and much more. Canon 6D, zoom lens. (Featured in Cover Shots.)
