For hundreds of years now, scientists at the Weyland-Yutani Corporation have been monitoring the behavior of an alien life-form so powerful that its potential for military application appears limitless. Although all attempts to harness the beast’s abilities have ended in appalling bloodshed, the acquisition of the Xenomorph remains a priority.

The Special Tactics and Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.) was an American elite special forces division under the jurisdiction of the Raccoon Police Department, though privately funded and able to operate independently. It employed ex-military personnel and academic experts for appropriate positions within the police department. The overall idea was to form a team combining tactically-sound soldiers with scientists, allowing the team to operate in both anti-terrorism and increasingly-potent urban crime scenarios, as well as dealing with other emergencies.

The Raccoon Police Department, commonly abbreviated as "RPD", was a municipal law enforcement agency which served Raccoon City in Arklay County, United States. Whether it had jurisdiction over the neighboring towns such as Stoneville, and its relationship with the Arklay County Sheriff's Department (ASD) is currently unknown.

fsociety is the name of a hacker group based in Coney Island, New York, led by the mysterious Mr. Robot. Its name is a play on both the derelict amusement park building in which it has its headquarters, and their message: "fuck society." This version of the fsociety design includes some light vintage wear to give it just enough street cred to make it look legit.

You Are An Idiot, also known as Offiz and Trojan:JS/NoBrain was a trojan website that took over a user's browser with an animated Flash file featuring 3 smiley faces on a strobing background, along with the text, "you are an idiot" as audio of "you are an idiot" being loudly sung. Originally going live back in 2002, this malware did not delete any files, instead acting like a fork bomb. When opened, the site would spawn 6 additional windows to make the singing and flashing even more chaotic. If the user managed to close one, the browser would duplicate to run a secondary instance. Trying to open Task Manager or closing one using Alt+F4 doesn't work, instead, it displayed a dialogue box stating that the user is an idiot.
