I wanted to make something fun and feminine and spooky. You can’t go wrong with a full moon and bats flying about in a wicked frenzy.

Around mid December last year, I got an exciting photo assignment from one of my industrial clients (how many of us can combine their professional line of work with their passion for photography)? The assignment required photographing over 600 images and processing about 250 of those to be delivered to the client before the end of January. In getting the job done on time (just last Friday night), I almost forgot what it was like to take time to myself to shoot nature and landscape subjects! Leaving my office last Friday around 7:30 at night and after having processed the last of the images on this project, I stopped for a breather while warming-up the car. Full Moon Rising is an art print I created using a variety of different drawing techniques. The end result is an abstract look of a bright full moon rising over a mountain range and being reflected in a lake. With a bright yellow moon, I chose to stay close to primary colors creating a bold look. I darkened and softened the blue sky as it pulled towards the horizon line and then added bright dashes of white for the stars. The mountain range was inspired by the Estrella Mountains in the Phoenix, Arizona area. Having lived on the western side of those mountains, the natural cragginess of the range always served as a dramatic foreground for full moons rising and sunrises in the morning. At Callanish on the Isle of Lewis there is this one stone in the circle that has what many see as the outline of a women holding what some call an alien baby. Here she is on the left with the full moon rising over the cairn in the centre.
