Hancock Park Mugs

Description: Hancock Park is a neighborhood in Los Angeles's Midtown region. Although primarily composed of single-family homes, Rossmore Avenue is home to a charming section of older, mid-rise apartment buildings. I explored it for my series, "California Fool's Gold," in 2015. https://ericbrightwell.com/2015/05/28/california-fools-gold-exploring-hancock-park/

Description: Hancock Park's La Brea Tar Pits get the retro travel-ad treatment, mammoths and a saber-toothed cat frozen mid-scene beside bubbling tar. The poster bills it as a 'Prehistoric Wonderland in the Heart of California,' with palm trees and the city skyline rounding out the scene.

Description: The La Brea Tar Pits are a group of tar pits around which Hancock Park was formed in urban Los Angeles. Natural asphalt (or tar brea in Spanish) has seeped up from the ground in this area for tens of thousands of years. The tar is often covered with dust, leaves, or water, which made it a natural trap for animals of all kinds, including humans. Over many centuries, the tar preserved the bones of animals that became trapped. La Brea Tar Pits is a registered National Natural Landmark and the on-site museum is dedicated to researching the tar pits and displaying specimens found there.

Description: The La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles are a historic fossil site, where natural asphalt has preserved prehistoric remains for thousands of years. Now a National Natural Landmark, the site features an active excavation area and a museum showcasing Ice Age discoveries
