Islamic Pattern Tile Tutorial Mugs

Who doesn't sparkle joy with those colourful Turkish mosaic lamps? One of my dreams(to sparkle my joy by browsing them) finally came true in Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, and I output my JOY as doodles that turned into the pattern!

This gouache on paper artwork shows a classic dual pattern, which means a pattern in a pattern! I've painted this zellige or zillige pattern in different shades of powder, ultramarine and prussian blue with gold. Such a classical combination!

Snapped a photo of this tile in an exhibition about Islamic art in Amsterdam in 2007. Available in other colourways Painted in Watercolours, and then textured with software.

This is designed with a verse of poetry from Rumi* in Persian. It translates to, "In the orchard of rose garden I long to see your face". The composition is included spiritual elements of Persian geometric and floral patterns mostly used in tile art combined with Nastaliq Persian calligraphic script. * Rumi: Jalāl ad-Dīn Mawlawī was a 13th-century Persian poet, jurist, scholar, and Sufi mystic.
