I don't know why, but this little bee looks like a rebel to me!

It wasn't until I got an old 1980's vintage Pentax 70-210 Macro zoom that I was able to capture the speckles, and detail, on the head of these fast moving birds. Or, perhaps it's because I retired from my day job in 2015 and have been shooting hummingbirds daily since. This is a young male Anna's Hummingbird that frequented our yard in late winter 2016.

I guess everybody knows that wasps are attracted to anything sugary but admittedly, while being highly aware of honeybees and bumblebees and other wild bees, I've never thought much about what wasps feed on early in the year when there is no fruit. The other day I saw this wasp sipping nectar from the flowers on one of my blackcurrant bushes, so there you have it: they like flowers too! Canon EOS 60D DSLR

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I had to turn to what I would call "isolation" photography. I created my own happy space with various objects that are dear to my heart and started exploring macro imaging. Needless to say, it was much more difficult than I thought but I had LOTS of fun creating the images in this series. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. Veined Spider Orchids (Caladenia Reticulata) tend to be solitary - so finding two on one stem is quite special!
