Pacific Electric Red Car Line 1901 Mug
Main Tag:

Description: The Pacific Electric Railway (PE), nicknamed the Red Car Line, was a privately owned mass transit system in Southern California consisting of electrically powered streetcars, interurban cars, and buses. The PE grew to become the largest interurban system in the world, spanning over 1,100 miles and operating 1,200 cars throughout Southern California in the pre-freeway era. Red Car service provided fast efficient passenger and freight interurban transportation in Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, making commuting within minutes possible. Suburban towns sprang up and developed along the PE rails. The Pacific Electric also ran one of the few electrically-powered Railway Post Office routes in the country.

Hetch Hetchy & Yosemite Valley Railroad 1900 Mug
Main Tag:

Description: The West Side Flume & Lumber Co. was founded in 1898 to log 55,000 acres of land outside of Tuolumne, California. A 10-mile narrow gauge railroad was laid into the woods east of the town to haul timber down the mountain to the newly constructed lumber mill, as well as to carry loggers to the work sites. In 1900, the lumber company incorporated their railroad as a common carrier called the Hetch Hetchy & Yosemite Valley Railroad, hoping to offer passenger service to the Hetch Hetchy Valley, and on to Yosemite National Park. The passenger trains were operated twice-weekly, and later three times a week, but ridership remained low. In 1903, West Side was sold, and the name was shortened to West Side Lumber Co.

Chasing the Cumbres and Toltec Mug
Main Tag:

Description: Chasing the Cumbres and Toltec by Debra Martz I've taken this scenic steam engine train ride from Antonito, CO to Chama, NM on several different occasions. It is a spectacular day filled with awesome views as you travel over high trestles, through tunnels, and along narrow shelves above deep gorges. At other times, while visiting Chama, NM, I've joined the enthusiastic "train chasers" to capture the train in action. I highly recommend the scenic ride but chasing the trains is tons of fun, too! ©Debra Martz, All Rights Reserved
