Her real name was Elizabeth Jane Cochran. She sent a letter to the director so well written that he gave her the opportunity to become a reporter. After going through the Dispatch went to New York, where he hired Pulitzer for the New York World and did a research project voluntarily entering a psychiatric asylum and wrote an article reporting the horrible conditions and abuses suffered and got the authorities to take letters in the matter. But perhaps the return to the world in 72 days, six hours 11 minutes, was worth the congratulation of Jules Verne himself who did not think he could get it when he saw her in Paris during his trip.
