Cullercoats Bay on the North East coast of England on a cold December morning just before sunrise. The golden sky was reflected in the North Sea and the silhouettes of Tynemouth Pier and the Priory can be seen on the horizon with photographers on the pier, dog walkers on the beach and a hardy group of swimmers in the water. brrr!

This serene image captures the tranquil beauty of Druridge Bay, where the vast expanse of golden sand is met by the calm North Sea. The clear blue sky is reflected in the tranquil pools of water nestled among the sand dunes. The peaceful atmosphere and solitude of the beach is enhanced by the emptiness of the beach, which is only occasionally visited by a few tourists.

Robin Hood’s Bay lies in the ancient parish of Fylingdales. The name itself is believed to be derived from the Old English word ‘Fygela’ which meant ‘marshy ground’. The first evidence of man in the area was 3000 years ago when Bronze Age burial grounds were dug on the high moorland a mile or so south of the village. These are known as Robin Hood’s Butts. Some 1500 years later, Roman soldiers had a stone signal tower built at Ravenscar about the 4 th century AD.

This image was taken on a cold, clear December morning as the rough seas were splashing around the stack, (and over the shoes of the photographer!) and then converted to black and white to emphasise the drama.

The North Yorkshire Coast is one of my favourite places to visit and, of course to paint. This acrylic work shows Runswick Bay a popular spot for dog-walkers and fossil hunters alike. The subtle colours will work anywhere and the piece almost has the feel of a watercolour.

This image was taken on a cold, wet and stormy November morning as the rough seas were splashing around the stack giving a good example of why it is constantly eroding.

A beautiful clear blue Northumbrian sky and the soft sands of Druridge Bay made for a perfect May spring morning. Just the sky and the sand produce something which is both simple and beautiful at the same time.
