Coached by the great Rick Kehoe, had a female goaltender in Erin Whitten, played under an open Civic Arena retractable dome for the last time in the historic building's history, there was a lot to love with the Phantoms beyond the great logo!

The club was a member of the non-FIFA sanctioned National Professional Soccer League (NPSL). All of the team's home games were played at Forbes Field, which also served as the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Description: The Pittsburgh Phantoms, more formally known as The Pittsburgh Phantoms Professional Soccer Club, were once part of the NPSL (National Professional Soccer League), the league that became the world famous NASL (North American Soccer League)! Almost unbelievably, the Phantoms played their home games in their only season of 1967 at Forbes Field. Their fantastic logo was decades ahead of its time, and though it took us more than two decades, we eventually found conclusive evidence that the Phantoms' team colors were purple and white rather than black and white! Remember Pittsburgh's first professional soccer franchise!
