Portland Head Light is a historic lighthouse in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. The light station sits on a head of land at the entrance of the primary shipping channel into Portland Harbor, which is within Casco Bay in the Gulf of Maine.

Simonton Cove is a bay in Cumberland County and has an elevation of 7 feet. Simonton Cove is situated nearby to Fort Preble, close to Willard Beach.

Portland Head is Maine’s oldest lighthouse and is still active, guiding ships into the Portland Harbor. There is only one day each year when the Coast Guard allows a limited number of visitors inside this storied lighthouse: the annual Maine Open Lighthouse Day in September. Portland Breakwater Light, sometimes referred to a Bug Light Park Lighthouse, stands as a living history. Its role as a marker of the end of the rocky breakwater shielding Portland Harbor began in 1855. In 1875 it was replaced, and at only 26-feet tall, it is known for its diminutive size and its elegance. It continues to be cared for and enjoyed by those visiting the park and those passing by on the waters of Casco Bay – its 250 mm optic exhibits a white flash every four seconds, welcoming visitors to South Portland and historic Portland Harbor.

Spring Point Ledge Light and Breakwater Portland Maine by Debra Martz Built in 1897, Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse stands out at the mouth of the harbor like a giant spark plug. The Bay State Bombardiers were a short-lived minor league basketball club in the Continental Basketball Association (1978-2009). The CBA was the official developmental league of the NBA during the 1980’s and 1990’s. The team originated in Bangor, Maine as the Maine Lumberjacks (1978-1983). The club moved south in March 1983 when Lumberjacks investor John Ligums relocated the team to Brockton, Massachusetts, twenty minutes south of his home in the tony Boston suburb of Milton.

Bug Light Under a Dramatic Sky by Debra Martz It was a cloudy, windy, and rather cold day but that atmosphere added to the overall mood of this image of Bug Light aka South Portland Breakwater Light. The lighthouse was originally built in 1855, as a wooden structure, replaced with a classical iron structure in 1875. The light was fully restored in 1989 and was reactivated in 2002. It appears as a private aid to navigation in the US Coast Guard Light List as South Portland Breakwater Light. Construction of the fortress in the distance was started around 1858. Ram Island Ledge Light Portland Maine by Debra Martz Built of gray granite blocks in 1905 on a tiny rock island in Casco Bay, Ram Island Ledge Light strikes a solitary pose at the entrance to the Portland, Maine Harbor. Still a critical aid to navigation, the Ram Island Ledge Light flashes white twice every six seconds.
