Description: Paradise Records is a fictional record store located in the high-desert city of Bend, in Central Oregon, that is the primary location in the 2025 slacker film of the same name. The movie focuses on Cooper, a well-meaning record store owner who is trying to keep the doors of his beloved record store open. He’s facing foreclosure, the bank won’t give him a loan, someone keeps offering to buy the property — and then there's the robbery and hostage situation. All told, he’s really not having a great day. Thankfully, he’s got his employees and a lot of weed to help him work through things.
Description: Parrot Records was an American record label, a division of London Records, which started in 1964. The label usually licensed (or leased) recordings made by Decca Records, England, for release in the United States and Canada, most notably by the Zombies, Tom Jones, Engelbert Humperdinck, Them, Jonathan King, Hedgehoppers Anonymous, Lulu, Savoy Brown and Alan Price. Other artists included the Detroit-based Frijid Pink, Love Sculpture (reissued from EMI) and Bobby "Boris" Pickett (reissued from Garpax). Parrot's biggest hit was "She's A Lady" by Tom Jones, peaking at #2 on the Billboard charts in early 1971.
Description: Skunk Records is a Long Beach, California based record label that was founded by Michael "Miguel" Happoldt and Bradley Nowell in 1990. Skunk is affiliated with the spinoff label Cornerstone R.A.S. The inspiration for forming a record label came to Happoldt in 1989 as a way to release music for his band the Ziggens. Happoldt met Nowell shortly thereafter, who insisted on having Sublime backed by the nascent label. Happoldt was selective in choosing other acts, which later included Slightly Stoopid, Juice Bros, Philieano, Toko Tasi, and Paulie Nugent.
Description: Wayne and Ron’s Record Shop opened July 15, 1971 at 3009 East Lake Street, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Wayne, aka 'Honey Bear,' lived in an apartment at the back of the store and slept on a custom-made round 'record' water bed, or at least that is what overnight guests choosing not to be named have said. Weird waterbeds aside, Wayne and Ron’s was known for having a killer selection of records and ran huge discounts on every band that came to town, making them a popular spot for decades to come.

The first store opened on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles in 1975 and later that year, a second was opened in Atlanta. At its peak, Peaches had 50 stores in 22 cities with over 2,000 employees. The company expanded rapidly during the mall boom in the 1980s and continued to grow into the 90s, becoming the US's largest specialty retailer of entertainment products. In addition to Musicland the company also ran Sam Goody, Suncoast, OnCue, and the Media Play Superstore Chains. The Musicland Group was purchased by Best Buy in 2001 at the height of Musicland's success, and unfortunately led to its demise. Description: Turtle's Records and Tapes was a Southern United States retail chain, based in Atlanta, that specialized in selling cassettes, records, and concert tickets; in the latter years of the chain's existence, it also rented movies in VHS format. Turtle's was recognized for its trademark logo, an upright standing turtle with its neck twisted around in several coils as he attempts to look backward.

Description: Alternative Tentacles is an independent record label established in 1979 in San Francisco, California. It was used by Dead Kennedys for the self-produced single "California Über Alles". After realizing the potential for an independent label, they released records for other bands as well.

Description: When I was in highschool in the mid-'80s and starting to delve into alternative culture, I kept hearing about this place called Cellophane Square in the University District. It was supposed to have punk and goth band t-shirts, records and tapes, all kinds of underground merchandise and was where you'd buy tickets to punk shows. Having grown up on the Eastside, hanging out at Bellevue Square as a kid, I pictured Cellophane Square as a punk rock mall. Imagine my surprise when I finally turned 16 and could drive to Seattle and found out Cellophane Square was a tiny, packed record store just off the Ave on 42nd (now the home of a Taco Del Mar).
