Description: Boasting an eclectic inventory that stretched well into the hundreds of thousands, Car City Records earned a reputation as one of the Detroit Metro area’s premier used record stores. Founded in 1984 by longtime vinyl enthusiast Bob Setlik—who began dealing jazz records in the mid-1970s—the shop became legendary among collectors for its deep selection of jazz, rock, blues, and classical LPs. Car City embraced an independent spirit and never tried to chase the trends or compete with chain stores pushing the latest chart hits. Instead, it focused on what it did best: offering crate diggers and music obsessives a true vinyl-hunter’s paradise packed with rare finds, forgotten gems, and shelves upon shelves of used records.
Description: Back in 1938 Max Silverman opened a record store at 1836 7th Street in Washington, D.C. under the name Waxie Maxie Quality Music Co. Silverman's store was an instant hit as he stocked it with all the latest recordings as well as those from up-and-coming musicians, including many black artists, something that was still not very common at the time. Silverman began holding jam sessions and live radio broadcasts in the storefront's window, a spot that attracted teens and young adults to the store and became known as the Maxie's goldfish bowl.
Description: Peaches Records & Tapes started in Los Angeles as a prominent chain of music superstores. Renowned for a massive inventory worth around $500,000 per store, many of these 15,000-square-foot locations were as big as grocery markets. The franchise stood out by hosting live band events, painting massive album cover murals on their buildings, and merchandising records inside actual fruit crates. Debuting on Hollywood Boulevard in 1975, they quickly expanded to Atlanta that same year. Peaches eventually grew to 50 locations in 22 cities with over 2,000 workers at its peak. However, by June 1981, accumulating $20 million in debt forced the company to declare Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Description: Whipped Cream & Other Delights is a 1965 album by Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, called "Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass" for this album, released on A&M Records. It is the band's fourth full album and arguably their most popular release. This album saw the band nearly abandoning its Mexican-themed music, featuring mostly instrumental arrangements of popular songs, and also generating some major pop hits for the first time since "The Lonely Bull." One "tradition" of the early Brass was to include a number rendered in "strip-tease" fashion, and this album's entry for that style was "Love Potion No. 9." The album sold over 6 million copies in the United States, and the album cover alone is considered a classic pop culture icon.

Made for crate diggers, record collectors and anyone who remembers when discovering an album meant spending hours inside a real music store.
