Description: David Tennant wasn't the first Scottish actor to be the Doctor. And Peter Capaldi wasn't the first Scot to play the role with a Scottish accent. These honors go to Sylvester McCoy. He was the Doctor from 1987 to the shows cancellation in 1989 after 26 seasons, though technically he was the Doctor until 1996 when he appeared briefly at the beginning of the Doctor Who TV movie before regenerating into the 8th Doctor, Paul McGann.
