Tape World was a mall-based chain of music stores owned by Trans World Entertainment, operators of Record Town, Coconuts, and FYE among others. While the name suggested emphasis on the one format, it did offer CDs, briefly, before being retired by Trans World.

The 761st Tank Battalion was an independent tank battalion of the United States Army during World War II. The 761st was made up primarily of African-American soldiers, who by federal law were not permitted to serve alongside white troops. The U.S. military did not officially desegregate until after World War II. The 761st were known as the Black Panthers after their unit's distinctive insignia; their motto was "Come out fighting".

The US Army's First All African American Tank Unit. The U.S. Army activated the 758th Tank Battalion in 1941. It was the first all-black armored unit. By December 1944 they were fighting the Axis Powers in Northern Italy, from the Ligurian Sea through the Po Valley and into the Apennine Mountains. They helped breach the Gothic Line, the Germans' last major defensive line of the Italian Campaign. The distinctive unit insignia was a tusked elephant head. Unit members were called "Tuskers".

The first pre-recorded music cassettes hit the market in 1966, with an initial offering of just 49 titles. This was the first step in the portable music revolution, but it wasn't until the late '70s when portable cassette players explode, and retail music cassettes went right along with them. From massive dual deck boom boxes to belt clipped personal players, cassettes were the new way to listen to music. While existing record stores were already carrying cassettes, Tape World launched with an all cassette retail format in their mall stores from coast to coast. Sure, they sold select vinyl titles, but they were wall-to-wall cassette tapes, which gave their relatively small footprint stores the ability to carry a ton of stock.
