Description: In literature, film, and other such arts, an unreliable narrator is a narrator who cannot be trusted, one whose credibility is compromised. They can be found in a wide range from children to mature characters. While unreliable narrators are almost by definition first-person narrators, arguments have been made for the existence of unreliable second- and third-person narrators, especially within the context of film and television, but sometimes also in literature. William Riggan analyzed in a 1981 study four discernible types of unreliable narrators, coming up with the following four classifications: The Pícaro, the Clown, the Madman, and the Naïf.

Description: In the English classroom, an "unreliable narrator" is a literary trope, but here it becomes a truly funny confession of burnout. For teachers and students, it means that while they look calm, their internal filter for nonsense is gone. The "final chapter" says the semester—or just their sanity—is ending. In a general work context, it’s a smart way to warn coworkers that your professional "veneer" is failing. You are no longer giving a factual account of how much stress you can take. It turns a bad mood into a plot twist, making it a high-engagement way to say you're exhausted. It's for the person who has reached the climax of their tolerance and is ready for the credits to roll. The plot is very thin and the end is near.
