First Peoples found a balance of life and land persisting over thousands of years before the arrival of the first Europeans. Our waterways served as their lifeline. Centuries later, they were joined by The Fox, Sauk, Ojibwa, Odawa, Huron, Mascouten, and Kickapoo, most of whom were taken in by the displaced Potawatomi Tribe. Description: County Stadium Scoreboard • First Official Sausage Race • Milwaukee, WI: Milwaukee County Stadium was a multi-purpose stadium opened in 1953. The first official Klements Sausage Race played on County Stadium’s state-of-the-art black and white scoreboard on June 27, 1993. The Polish, Bratwurst, & Italian Sausages raced over the harbor’s Hoan Bridge (above left). During the final season played at County Stadium in 2000, the virtual race turned real, with larger-than-life sausages now racing during every game. Description: Mitchell Domes Sign • Mitchell Park, Milwaukee WI: Features Mitchell Park Domes. The old Milwaukee conservatory was replaced with a new facility designed by local architect Donald L. Grieb. His design included three domes to open to the public in this order: The “show” dome featuring seasonal plants and special exhibitions in 1965; The tropical dome in 1966; and The arid (or desert) dome in 1967. To this day, many consider the three domed structures to be the gem of Milwaukee’s public parks system.
