As sunsets go, this one was pretty much perfect. The sky was cloudless and the almost perfectly calm water of Lake Huron gave an overall dreaminess to the spectacle. Here the Sun is just kissing the horizon, which is otherwise just an indistinct transition between sky and water. Everything was surreal.

We are all drawn to watch sunsets, no two ever seem to be the same, but some have richer detail that deserves capturing. Here the Sun is setting when there was a considerable amount of cloud on the horizon. Such a sunset might be dismissed as it doesn't have the broad palette typical of the cliched sunset, but look at those rich shades of orange, ochre and brown, the fascinating tracery of the high-altitude clouds, and the deep brown of the clouds obscuring our view of the fiery orb.

This image, originally captured on film, is of the Sun setting over Lake Huron. My vantage point was Pioneer Park in Bayfield, Ontario. Sunsets are a bit of a spectator sport in Bayfield. All along the cliff that overlooks the lake, people gather in the hope of seeing something splendid. It's the clouds that can create the spectacle, be they strongly backlit with golden edges or deeply black when already shaded by other clouds. The slow but ever-changing interplay of the sunlight with the clouds provides not one image but a progression of awe.

At the end of the day in Bayfield, Ontario, a favourite pastime is to watch the setting Sun. Almost any vantage point along the cliff above the lake will see people gathering to watch the spectacle. Of course not all sunsets are the same, which is what brings the crowds back time after time. This one occurred on a completely cloudless evening, with the Sun setting over an almost completely calm lake. The incredibly rich red tones flooded across the sky as the Sun said its goodbye.

Although largely obscured by the much larger Koreatown of Los Angeles, Little Seoul is a vibrant Korean enclave with its own interesting history.
