Count Absalom Umbriel and Flotsam Nearly all the inhabitants of Corallina would agree that Absalom Umbriel, Count of Drifting Kelp is a most desirable dinner guest, at least in the abstract. He is indisputably handsome, considerably wealthy and a charming and witty raconteur – quite a catch for any host or hostess, let alone anyone to whom he might take a fancy. But alas, Absalom only has eyes for his squid companion, Flotsam, and he insists on bringing the bad-mannered cephalopod with him absolutely everywhere.
