The Schandua Building - Hand Knocker - Fredericksburg, Texas by Debra Martz While walking down the very busy through street of the tourist town of Fredericksburg, I noticed this antique hand knocker on an old door. Just above the knocker was the metal sign indicating this was once the entry to a private residence. Just to the side of it, on the exterior of the Schandua Building, was the Texas seal marking this as an historic building. From the signage on the building: "Erected in 1897 of hand-hewn limestone, this structure was the home of John (d.1900) and Bertha (Klein) Schandua (d. 1943).
