The Pittsburgh Triangles were a founding member of World Team Tennis, a professional tennis league. The team began play in 1973, and the Triangles played until 1976.

The Baltimore Banners were a charter franchise of World Team Tennis (WTT) founded in 1974. The Banners had 16 wins and 28 losses, and finished in third place in the Atlantic Section missing the playoffs. After the team owners failed to post the required $500,000 letter of credit, the team's contract was terminated and the players were distributed among the other teams in the league.

The Chicago Aces were a charter franchise of World Team Tennis (WTT). The Aces played only one season before being contracted by WTT on February 1, 1975. The Aces played their home matches in at the Lakeshore Racquet Club in Chicago. The Aces had 15 wins and 29 losses and finished in last place in the Gulf Plains Section.

The Los Angeles Strings were a team tennis franchise in World Team Tennis from 1973 to 1978. The Strings played their home matches at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena in 1974, before moving to The Forum in Inglewood, California for the 1975 season. The Strings featured Chris Evert as a player and Ilie Năstase as the coach on their 1978 WTT championship team. A second version of the LA Strings played in the TeamTennis/World TeamTennis from 1981 to 1993.

The San Francisco Golden Gaters were a charter franchise of World Team Tennis (WTT). The Golden Gaters won two Western Division Championships and lost in the WTT Finals both times. The team was founded in 1973 and made the playoffs in each of the five seasons in which it participated in the league. Following the 1978 season, eight of the then 10 WTT franchises folded leaving only the Golden Gaters and the Phoenix Racquets prepared to participate in the 1979 season. WTT suspended operations of the league in March 1979, ending the Golden Gaters existence.
