Description: The 1984 Caravan marked a turning point in American family transportation, introducing the modern minivan to the market alongside its sibling, the Voyager. Built on a front-wheel-drive platform, the Caravan offered a lower step-in height, car-like handling, and a spacious, versatile interior that appealed to growing suburban families. Its boxy design maximized cargo and passenger space, while features like removable rear seating made it adaptable for both daily errands and road trips. Initially powered by a modest four-cylinder engine, with an optional V6, the Caravan prioritized practicality over performance. It was a truly revolutionary vehicle, and its success was immediate and lasting, helping its Detroit manufacturer regain solvency.

A man named Alfons Hymer was working as a wheelwright and coachbuilder, but wanted to become self-employed in the future. His son, Erwin Hymer, joined the business in 1956 and bought part of the premises. Together with engineer, Erich Bachem, their first caravan was developed in 1957 and the two men began serial production of their range of caravans. Fast-forward to 1971 when the first Hymermobil was produced, quickly building a fan base that would grow into cult like status.
