Pleiades (also known as Messier 45, M45, Subaru, Seven Sisters) is an open star cluster located in the constellation of Taurus. The cluster is dominated by hot blue stars, that have formed within the last 100 million years. Dust that forms a faint reflection nebulosity around the brightest stars is a cloud in the interstellar medium, through which the stars are currently passing. Picture was taken with newton 600mm f/4 telescope, modified DSLR, total exposure time: 3 hours.

On a trip to Prince Edward County in Ontario, I realised that it is host to some remarkable farm structures. Dotted throughout the county are these vestiges of a long tradition of farming. Some where in a sad state of repair having been neglected or abandoned, but others were still in active use. I loved this one for the tidiness of the barn in its setting surrounded by neatly mowed grass, which in turn spoke to its continued use. And then there's the magnificent blue of the sky; the whole scene seems idyllic.

Visiting Cambridge University requires that you visit the grounds of King's College. This is a view from the southeast across the Front Court of the Gibbs Building and the King's College Chapel to the right. The Gibbs Building, named after its architect, is built in a neoclassical style and completed in about 1730. I love this image for the way the building stands out in the bright sunlight; it just looks so proud across the immaculately mowed lawn.

It was late in the day as we arrived at the Royal Palace in Phenom Penh; it wouldn't be long before the Sunset. Our timing did give us the advantage of having the place almost to ourselves. To help us around, we hired a guide to show us the highlights. This is an image of the Throne Hall, a pavilion-like structure used for coronations and other royal events. What an incredible building, so ornate and all trimmed with yellow and gold. The roofline is remarkable with tiered gable ends and spires. I really loved the snake-like points on the gables. The lateness in the day created an almost halo-like effect around the building, with the deepest blues approaching the zenith. It was quite the scene.

Circus

This is an image of a flat iron style building in Vancouver's Gastown district. Those lovely windows on the corner offer a perfect view along Water Street, which is the main thoroughfare through this artsy and fashionable area. In this image, I love that gentle, rounded roof line set against the deep blue of the sky, and the warmth of the light on the brickwork.

I was in Barcelona recently, taking an open-topped tour bus of the city. We were going around the Plaça d'Espanya, an enormous roundabout, when I noticed these two towers. They immediately reminded me of the bell tower in Saint Mark's Square in Venice. A little bit of research later confirmed these were built for the 1929 international exposition in Barcelona to mimic that very campanile. What I love about this image is the way the two towers stand out against the stunningly blue sky with the terracotta red and yellow of the towers looking so good with that backdrop.

Black Sand Coast Series 01

This image is of a section of the wall around the Muslim fort in Mérida, Spain. The fort was completed in 835 BCE. Today, the fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Portrayed in the image is a small park that resides just outside the wall. The old adage that blue and green should never be seen is clearly nonsense when you view this image.

There's nothing like enjoying a vacation next to a golden sand beach with Sun and surf, and in this case palm trees. This is an image I captured while walking on the beach near Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. It was a warm, sea-breezy day. The fronds on the trees were yielding to the breeze, dancing to the ever-changing gusts. All along that stretch of shoreline, there was a reef a couple of metres off-shore that shielded the beach from the power of the surf, making the on-shore waves gentle. I hope you can feel the warmth of this day as you view this image, and that you think, "How do I get there?".

This is a depiction of several skeletal trees, each ready to meet winter. The cerulean sky of combined tones of blue and cyan, stands in stark contrast with the branches of the trees as they trace their way across the image. The branches trace a filigree like pattern that appears to fan-out diagonally across the frame, reaching to every corner.
