Posters of Rattlesnake Cedric, Mad Dog Zeke, and me were posted up and down the road with warnings not to fire a gun in the town. The voting was closed and Judge Slade was busy counting the ballets on the boardwalk. A banjo player sat on a barrel and sang a song to a tiny gathering of children. "Mad Dog and Rattlesnake were the meanest deputies of the West. They carried no guns because they were quicker than the rest. They carried skillets and they would whack you on the head. I could see they were happy to see us flying overhead and decided to land in the center of the village. Chief Wanakuka and his wife, Lanacua ran down the balcony to greet us. I'm going to git my gun and come back here."

The frustrations of life on the goldfields were compounded by the heavy handed approach to licensing and taxation that led to the Eureka uprising of 1854.

Keep Out is a sepia tone photographic art print of a replica of the entrance to an old mine. The setting is Tortilla Flats, located east of the Phoenix, Arizona metropolitan area up in the Superstition Mountains. Once a stage coach stop, Tortilla Flats is more of a tourist attraction with a great restaurant, small museum and gift shop all looking like an old west town including old wagons, wagon wheels and a replica of an entrance to a mine. I used a sepia tone finish and texture on the photograph for that old rustic look. The sepia brown tones originated with film photography as part of the process to develop the prints in the 1800’s.
