Most are familiar with Thor, god of thunder, and his war hammer, Mjölnir, but from whence did this mighty, magical mallet materialize? Mjölnir was forged by two bristly dwarf brothers who lived deep in the caverns of the dwarf homeland, Svartalfheim. The artwork representing this story has many of the details from the mythology. If you look closely, you can see all the gifts created by the dwarves scattered around them with the mighty Mjölnir sitting at the center above the anvil. You can see the trickster, Loki in fly form near Brokkr’s eye. Mjölnor has such great weight and importance in mythology and in contemporary culture that I think the back story to its creation is important and interesting. I think this piece captures...

Odin hung from Yggdrasil for 9 days and 9 nights to learn the magic of the runic alphabet. To symbolize this there are 9 moons and 9 suns on the piece as well as the whole runic alphabet. The centre features Odin accompanied by his two ravens Huginn and Munin. There is also a Sunset and Night Sky Variation on my TeePublic store.

Traditional Nordic style knot work Odin, who traded his eye for wisdom and hung from Yggdrasill for nine days and nine nights to learn the power of the runes of the elder futhark.

In Norse mythology, Surtr - The fiery giant, lord of Muspelheim. During Ragnarok, Surtr will come from the south with flames, carrying a very bright sword. In the battle his sword will cut down the world tree Yggdrasil, and this will be the beginning of the death of the present world and the beginning of the birth of a new one.

This design featuring a distinctly Irish ring pommel sword is based on swords carried by Irish kerns in a 16th century woodcut now in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. Here the sword is combined with bands of Celtic-style knotwork.
