Description: At one point in the Christmas Day 2007 Kirkwall Ba game the action moved to the rooftops! Luckily nobody was injured.... The Ba is played every Christmas and New Year's Day in Kirkwall, Orkney. It's a kind of traditional game of mass football, played in the streets of the town between the Uppies and the Doonies. Throw-up is from the Merkat Cross in front of St Magnus Cathedral at 1pm, and the game often takes several hours to reach a conclusion. The Uppie goal is a wall and the Doonie goal is the harbour basin! You can see more Ba photos here and more of my work at http://www.orcadiaimages.co.uk
