This is a wide angle shot of Cape Perpetua, which is a large forested headland projecting into the Pacific Ocean on the central Oregon Coast in Lincoln County, Oregon. It is located about 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Yachats, Oregon, along U.S. Route 101. This image was taken from the parking area along the highway and next to the Devil's Churn, a long crack in the coastal rock that fills with each ocean wave, occasionally exploding as incoming and outgoing waves collide. The flag of the state of Idaho consists of the state seal on a field of blue. The words "State of Idaho" appear in gold letters on a red and gold band below the seal. According to the official description of the flag, there should also be a fringe of gold around the edges, but a long time ago the versions of the flag were not shown until they remodeled the flag after War.

In the Siletz language, Yachats means “dark water at the foot of the mountain,” and the Oregon Coast Range, surging ocean waters, and tide pools sunk in the black basalt of the shoreline make the name altogether appropriate. Located in a very unique spot, Yachats (pronounced YAH-hots) is widely regarded as the 'Gem of the Oregon Coast'. Instead of sandy beaches, much of the coastline near Yachats is composed of rugged black basalt that produces surging sea landmarks like Devil’s Churn, Spouting Horn, and Thor’s Well. Phenomenal views can be seen from Cape Perpetua, the highest viewpoint on the Oregon Coast, located just a few miles south of town. At the 2010 census, the population was 690, and was named one of the "Ten Coolest Small Towns."

Thor's Well, also known as the drainpipe of the Pacific, is located along Cape Perpetua, which is about 2 miles south of Yachats in Oregon, along U.S. Route 101. Thor's Well is a hole in the rock that only appears to drain water from the ocean. In reality the huge hole is around 20 feet deep. The well manages to produce amazing sights and is most spectacular at high tide, or during storms when water washes violently over the rocks and falls back through the hole (not for the faint of heart!). Unsuspecting tourists run the risk of being swept right into the maelstrom (a few deaths have been reported at that location). In shooting this, myself and all of my camera equipment got severely drenched in salty ocean water. Not sure yet ...
