Released in 2004, a year after Bolaño's death, the novel is divided into five sections that are linked by varying degrees of concern with the unsolved murders of upwards of 300 young, poor, mostly uneducated Mexican women in Ciudad Juárez (Santa Teresa in the novel).
Description: Roberto Bolaño (1953– 2003) was a Chilean novelist, short-story writer, poet and essayist. In 1999, Bolaño won the Rómulo Gallegos Prize for his novel Los detectives salvajes. Critics described him as "the most significant Latin American literary voice of his generation". The portrait is a digitally created portrait based on popular photographs.
