In 1973 Rosenhan and his pals conducted a number of psychological experiments to determine the validity of diagnosis of mental patients. They sent participants to various mental hospitals who all complained of the same symptoms, (hearing voices). None of them were actually insane but all were diagnosed with schizophrenia. All were admitted and made to take anti-psychotic drugs. They then behaved normally and said they no longer had symptoms. There were released but were charged with continuing to take medication and were diagnosed with their condition in remission. The study showed that there appeared to be no way for the doctors to tell the genuinely insane from the sane when diagnosing their condition. Concerned the mental institutions asked form more people to be sent so they could improve their diagnosis process and detect the impostors. Following the request they identified lots of people they suspected of being impostors and reported back to Rosenhan their findings. In response Rosenhan told them he had sent no one!

Sketch made by Steven A. Garcia. Two well known character that cannot be separated from each. Darkness and chaos. One cannot live without the other. As Harvey Dent once said in the Nolan-verse, "You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain"

There are days when I literally feel that yoga is responsible for my sanity. Inhale, Exhale. Breathe. Relax. The Spirit within me salutes the Spirit in you, or I bow to the divine in you. Yoga always puts a (relaxed) smile on my face. ©032117

Being a parent is hard and sometimes you need a small moment of sanity that doesn't involve you sharing some delicious treat with the tiny humans you've created. Some times you just have to pretend that you really are organizing that closet again even though you may be savoring the smallest bite of sugary sanity... alone

So I'll admit, I make my kids eat their veggies but some days I don't. I'm not worried about my own nutrition nearly as much as I worry about my kids... so sometimes I take a selfish moment of sanity and hide in the closet so that I can consume something filled with sugar without the slobbery assistance of the tiny humans who run my household. Mom life.
