Date Masamune (伊達政宗) was a regional ruler of Japan’s Azuchi – Momoyama period through early Edo period. Heir to a long line of powerful daimyos in the Tohoku region, he went on to found the modern-day city of Sendai. In spite of facing an infamously traumatizing childhood, he rose to prominence as the most dominate ruling power in Oshu. He is reputed as one of the wisest figures of the time era, biting back his ambitions to stay as one of the wealthiest independent rulers of his time. The One Eyed Dragon of Oshu (奥州独眼竜), is the nickname of Masamume due to his missing right eye.

Imagawa clan (今川) was a Japanese noble military clan that claimed descent from the Seiwa Genji by way of the Kawachi Genji. They were defeated at the Battle of Okehazama in 1560 by Oda Nobunaga and succumbed to the Takeda in 1569. The family lived on to provide Masters of Ceremony to the Tokugawa bakufu in the Edo period. Oda Nobunaga was a legendary daimyo of Japan in the sengoku jidai who attempted to unify Japan and successfully gained control over most of Honshu. Nobunaga is regarded as one of three unifiers of Japan along with his retainers Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu. During his later life, Nobunaga was widely known for most brutal suppression of determined opponents, eliminating those who by principle refused to cooperate or yield to his demands. His reign was noted for innovative military tactics, fostering free trade, and encouraging the start of the Momoyama historical art period. He was killed when his retainer Akechi Mitsuhide rebelled against him at Honno-ji.

Kato Kiyomasa (加藤清正) was a Japanese samurai and daimyo of the Sengoku periods. He began his career under Hideyoshi, first serving as his page and eventually rising to prominence into adulthood. He is one of the many Toyotomi generals who join the Eastern Army prior to Sekigahara, but he is best known for allegedly staying loyal to Hideyoshi's memory. A popular legend states that while he served Ieyasu, he concealed a short dagger within his robes wherever he went at all times. If Ieyasu threatened to end Hideyori on his watch, the story states that Kiyomasa was more than willing to use it on Ieyasu. After his death, he is lauded as one of the Seven Spears of Shizugatake.

Honda Heihachiro Tadakatsu, or Honda Tadakatsu, was a Japanese samurai, general (and later a daimyo) of the late Sengoku through early Edo periods, who served Tokugawa Ieyasu. Honda Tadakatsu was one of the Tokugawa Four Heavenly Kings along with Ii Naomasa, Sakakibara Yasumasa and Sakai Tadatsugu, and has been regarded as one of the finest warrior at the time.

Naoe Kanetsugu (直江兼続) was a Japanese samurai of sengoku jidai. As the eldest son of Higuchi Kanetoyo, Kanetsugu was famed for his service to two generations of the Uesugi daimyos. Kanetsugu served first as a kosho to Uesugi Kenshin. After Kenshin had died, he served Kagekatsu, the adopted son of Kenshin.
