Cruise plays Lieutenant Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, a young naval aviator aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise. He and his Radar Intercept Officer, Nick "Goose" Bradshaw (Edwards) are given the chance to train at the US Navy's Fighter Weapons School at Naval Air Station Miramar in San Diego, California.

Description: Goose - Lieutenant (Junior Grade) Nick Bradshaw (callsign: Goose) was a Naval Flight Officer and Maverick's radar intercept officer (RIO). While clearly able to enjoy himself and have a good time, Goose was clearly more level headed than his partner Maverick, which is shown through his family and slightly more serious personality. He's a skilled RIO and married to Carole, a fiery young woman with whom he has a son, Bradley.
