GWR Broad Gauge Locomotive "Firefly" Pin
Firefly Pin
designed and sold by IanWL
The Firefly class of locomotive was designed by Daniel Gooch for the Great Western Railway and saw service between 1840 and 1879. They were broad gauge locomotives running on rails 7ft 1/4 inch wide (ie 2140mm), a gauge peculiar to the GWR in the 1800s. Pictured here is a reproduction built by the Firefly Trust and completed in 2005 which now runs on broad gauge track at the Didcot Railway Centre in Oxfordshire. The carriages are mostly open - and unsprung! Nikon D200 Nikkor 18-200
