High Stile From the Head of Buttermere, Cumbria Pin

This image, captured on film in late 1987, depicts the mountain called High Stile from across the head of Buttermere, a lake in the Lake District National Park, England. I was visiting the UK and took a few days to go up to Cumbria for a few days of walking in the mountains. It was a wonderfully clear late autumn day so the trees were bare. The bracken on the hills had died back but was still a deep but yet vibrant brown, glowing in the bright autumnal light. The very hardy heather and grasses at higher elevations were still full of colour making the scene so splendid, and the lake was calm with just a few ripples from the gentle breezes. It was a sight to behold.
