And hot rodding vehicles for more power and better performance wasn't just limited to American coupes and flathead V8's. As economical imports made land in post-war America, they received the same treatment, and in the mid-'60s, Andrew's Air Cooled Performance of Bakersfield, California opened their garage doors with a goal of squeezing as much performance out of compact air-cooled engines of German origin, and from what we've heard, they were very, very good at it.

Description: During Prohibition, moonshine production skyrocketed. The spirits were made under the light of the moon, in hopes that no one would detect smoke from the stills, a practice that earned the booze its name moonshine. These distilleries used runners who could smuggle moonshine from the stills to customers across the region. On the outside, the runner cars looked stock to avoid attention, but on the inside high-powered engines and heavy-duty suspensions that would give them the edge in outrunning law enforcement. These runners and their souped up cars would eventually be raced and lead to what we all know as modern stock car racing today. This Moonshine Express design comes from the '70s, when a moonshine running experienced a resurgence.
