Devils Tower - Scenic Back Roads by Debra Martz ........................... Most people drive to Devil's Tower in Wyoming via highway 14 and yes, we did that, too! But there is always something fresh and different when you find the back roads. So, after the crowded, weekend visit, we decided to return to Devil's Tower on a week day while still visiting this part of Wyoming. Just west of Sundance, WY there's a paved back road 838 that goes north about 6-7 miles. When the pavement stops you find yourself at a Y in the road, both of which are forest service roads. Veer to the left and you will find yourself on forest rd 847. You enter and exit the borders of the Black Hills National Forest, passing by a few farms along the way and then....

I discovered this small school house while exploring the backroads of Prince Edward Island. I wanted to create a photograph that related to the schools past. Including the road sign completed the story in this image. There are many crossroads located in PEI that have retained their historic name from early settlement times. Canoe Cove is one of them. The Canoe Cove School was built in approximately the year 1850. School consolidation swept the Island in the 1960s, and small schools, including Canoe Cove, were put out to pasture. This design embodies the Scraggly Beard Running project to run every mile of public roads in Wallowa County. The project is meant to inspire more people to get out and run, as well as explore the roads less travelled.

Rural barn with silos. A typical barn located in Central Ontario countryside surrounded by crop fields. This was in late autumn as farmers let the crops such as soya beans dry before harvesting. Typically I am looking for bright autumn colours but the muted tones of this fall scene gives an overall sepia tone to the image. The result is an interesting study of farm life and rural charm. Pillar Arch in Potter Canyon New Mexico by Debra Martz I love the finds on backroads and when I was told there was a brochure to some of the more unknown Arches it was game on. We had a full day to explore but discovered that was not enough time but we did find more than half a dozen arches and saw some wonderful countryside scenery. To reach 3 arches in Potter Canyon you take US 550 north of Aztec toward Durango, Co, make a right on NM 173, travel 5.6 miles and turn right on a dirt road. After 1/2 mile, park at a gas well and search out in 3 different directions for 3 arches. We found Pillar and Outcrop arches but could see nor figure out a slight hint of a trail to Alien Arch! ©Debra Martz 20180902-DSC_7458-HDR-ET
