San Francisco - Oakland Bay Bridge

The Sunshine Skyway Bridge connects St. Petersburg and Terra Ceia across Tampa Bay. The current bridge was dedicated in 1987, and replaces an earlier version that was partially destroyed in a well-known 1980 maritime collision. Portions of that original bridge were sunk into the bay during demolition, and the approaches were turned into the longest fishing pier in the world, open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Burfordville Covered Bridge is the oldest remaining covered bridge in Missouri. Joseph Lansmon began its construction in 1858, but it is unclear if the bridge was completed before or after the Civil War. The bridge was not mentioned in St. Louis newspaper accounts of the 1861 burning of Bollinger Mill, located next to the bridge. After the Civil War, the bridge became a vital link, especially to farmers driving wagonloads of grain destined for the mill.

The West Swanzey Covered Bridge (also known as the Thompson Bridge) is a historic wooden covered bridge carrying Main Street over the Ashuelot River in West Swanzey, New Hampshire. It was closed to all traffic in 1990 but has since been rehabilitated and reopened. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

An ode to San Francisco

The Sawyers Crossing Covered Bridge, also known as the Cresson Bridge, is a wooden covered bridge carrying Sawyers Crossing Road over the Ashuelot River in northern Swanzey, New Hampshire. It was built in 1859 to replace a bridge built in 1771. It is 117 feet long and 17 feet wide. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

The Dalton Covered Bridge is a historic covered bridge that carries Joppa Road over the Warner River in Warner, New Hampshire. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

The Bay Bridge in San Francisco on a foggy September night. While other icons in the area were totally obscured by this fog, it was bright enough to shine through.

This was definitely a trying night for photography, since the fog did its best to cover various landmarks and generally caused annoyance by covering our lenses in water droplets every two minutes...but we still all had a blast. I got this shot while hiding in the bushes on Lombard Street (I wasn't game enough to stand on the narrow street with cars passing by me). The light trails are actually from two cars following each other closely -- hence the many distinct streaks going around the corner.

Again,taken on a hot sunny day, from the trail above the beaches. 27 and 28 May 2012 saw the 75th anniversaries of Pedestrian Day and the opening to traffic (respectively) of the Bridge. From sea level to the top of the towers is just shy of 755 feet. Each tower has an estimated 600,000 rivets. It is said there have been over 1.75 billion crossings since then. In 1994 The Golden Gate Bridge was named one of the Seven Civil Engineering Wonders of the United States by the American Society of Civil Engineers. Long believed by St. Canard residents to be the secret hideout of the city's superhero, Darkwing Duck, the Audubon Bay Bridge has become quite famous and beloved all around the world. The Audubon Bay Bridge Preservation Society seeks to make the span a historical landmark. Support is spreading. Even Duckburg residents have been seen wearing this shirt around their town. Now if only we could get them all to put on some pants.
