Chuhaister Pins and Buttons

Description: If he asks you to dance, dance. Deep in the forests of the Ukrainian Carpathians wanders the Chuhaister, a shaggy forest spirit from Ukrainian and Hutsul folklore. Unlike many creatures said to inhabit the wilderness, the Chuhaister is traditionally portrayed as friendly toward people—and sometimes known to invite those he encounters to dance. This vintage folklore design imagines the legendary wild man dancing around a glowing mountain campfire beneath the full moon, surrounded by Carpathian peaks, evergreen forest, and Ukrainian folk ornament. A design for Ukrainians, folklore lovers, cryptid hunters, hikers, campers, and strange old stories still hiding among the forests. And if he asks you to dance…dance.

Description: Enter the stranger side of Ukrainian folklore with the Carpathian Field Guide. Designed like a weathered naturalist’s journal, this richly detailed illustration documents four legendary figures: the forest-dwelling Chuhaister, household spirit Domovyk, mysterious mountain Molfar, and serpentine Zmyi. Handwritten observations, maps, mountain scenery, botanical specimens, folk charms, and Ukrainian symbols turn the design into an artifact from an expedition that perhaps went a little too far. Created for Ukrainian folklore enthusiasts, cryptid hunters, mythology readers, hikers, field researchers, and anyone fascinated by old stories hiding in wild places. Remember the field rule: Observe • Record • Do Not Follow.
