The design comes from a legendary political cartoon from 1911 that's an American cartoon caricature critical of capitalism copied from a Russian flyer from 1901. It depicts the capitalist system as a social pyramid with peasants and workers at the bottom ("We work for all", "we feed all"), the bourgeoisie above them ("We eat for you"), the military above them ("We shoot at you"), the clergy above them ("We fool you"), royalty and state leaders above them ("We rule you"), and finally a money bag at the top representing capital as the ruler of all. This is made from a Soviet poster called The Last Hour of Capital that I restored, recolored, and refinished. It depicts a capitalist watching the clock hand, labelled "communism" come closer and closer to decapitating him.

This was originally an engraving titled "Portraits of the Haymarket Martyrs" by Walter Crane in memorial of those that fought for an eight hour work day on May 4, 1886 at Haymarket Square in Chicago. I have refinished and digitized this century-old design into modern fidelity for printing. This version is in color, but the original was just in black and white - which is also available in the store.

"Rodan, Monster for the Motherland!" Rodan was apparently used, allegorically, for communism -- that's all the excuse I need to make this poster!

Communist propaganda is the scientific, artistic, and social promotion of the ideology of communism, communist worldview and interests of the communist movement. While it tends to carry a negative connotation in the Western world, the term "propaganda" broadly refers to any publication or campaign aimed at promoting a cause and is/was used for official purposes by most communist-oriented governments. Rooted in Marxist thought, the propaganda of communism is viewed by its proponents as the vehicle for spreading the enlightenment of working class people and pulling them away from the propaganda of their oppressors that reinforces their exploitation, such as religion or consumerism.

"Don't hurt the landscape!" This design was originally from an environmental poster made in the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic in the 1980's.
