The name means "Grey Waterfall" in Gaelic, although it was rather brown, presumably from the peat. Aasleagh Lodge nearby is run as a fishing lodge, which is not surprising as I saw a huge salmon try to throw itself up the waterfall while I was preparing the shot. Unfortunately it had given up by the time I was ready...

Eventing Chestnut Pony on Cross Country

The oldest part of this structure, the five-storey tower with the small windows at the eastern end, dates from the late 15th century. The manor house, the rest of the building, was added on in the 1630s by Conor O'Brien. He went and got himself killed fighting Cromwell's troops in 1651.
