Stephen Crane (a.k.a. Steve Crane, Steven Crane) started out as bit actor in Hollywood in the 30's and became better known for being one of Lana Turner's ex-husbands than for any of his roles. Realizing his limited acting skills, Steve Crane turned his charm and energies to the restaurant business and in 1953 bought out 'The Tropics' in Beverly Hills. Taking his cue from Trader Vic's and Don the Beachcomber, Steve created his own Polynesian themed restaurant 'The Luau'. The restaurant quickly became a hit and a 'must see' Hollywood celebrity hot spot. Eventually Steve Crane would be approached by Sheraton to create a Polynesian themed restaurant for the hotels to compete with Hilton and their association with Trader Vic's.

Toner’s Beef & Ale, the last name hanging on the house built in 1926 that stood at the corner of Pennsylvania and Fort Washington avenues in the Upper Dublin Township. The old brick house was built by a chemist who ran a patent drug store on-premises. He later expanded with a soda fountain and gas pumps out front while maintaining living space for his family. By 1933 the original owner had moved his family out, got a liquor license, and reimagined the space as The Brick Tavern. 30-years later John J. Toner bought the tavern for $28,000 and it was reborn as Toner's Beef & Ale, becoming a popular community watering hole for decades to come before ultimately being demolished and replaced with a bank in 2015.

The existence of Belle Glade is due to the federal project of draining the land around Lake Okeechobee in Florida so that the acreage could be used for agriculture. The rich soil which was previously submerged was mucky, so the town (and much of the surrounding area) became known by the nickname Muck City. The town, which included the Golden Eagle Bar, was built in 1925 and subsequently destroyed three years later by a hurricane which killed thousands of people. The small town was subsequently rebuilt, including the Golden Eagle, which continued to serve the local population along with the many agricultural workers for decades into the future.

Pickle Bill's Bar-B-Q opened its doors in 1941 at 2712 Pico Blvd in Santa Monica. From the sawdust-covered floors to the giant pickle on the restaurant's marquee, Pickle Bill's truly was 'soooo different' from every other establishment at the time. It offered a true roadhouse experience right in town that managed to do the impossible by attracting raucous crowds and families alike. Of course, it wasn't just the experience that drew them in - it was the food. Aside from all kinds of barbeque, Pickle Bill's menu included steaks, seafood, and their famous French dip sandwiches.

A wretched hive indeed. But hey... the blue milk is cold and the music is hot!

Arnold's Beach Bar bills itself as "Waikiki's last tiki bar." I have no idea if that's true or not, but I do know that it's a genuine dive bar that's been around for decades and this design's vintage treatment makes it a look you picked it up back in the 80s.

Lee Triemert opened Lee's Liquor Lounge in Minneapolis in the late '50s, and ran it with his wife until he passed away in '76. Lou Sirian bought the bar in '77, but continued to call it Lee's, because Lou is the kind of guy who likes to keep things the way they are. That model seemed to work for Lou, as Lee's remained a mainstay of the city’s historically working-class North Loop neighborhood for decades. Housed in a 125-year-old former warehouse, Lee's was the go-to watering hole for blue collar employees for generations, but as the factories left, so did many of the customers. Lou brought in live music in the mid '80s, and this is when Lee's got its second wind as a music venue, with sort of a honky tonk dive bar vibe.

Flagstaff, Arizona's The Museum Club first opened as a taxidermy shop and showcase and had evolved into a nightclub by 1936. Housed inside what was once claimed to be the world's largest log cabin, The Museum Club was a dance hall, live music venue, and rowdy cowboy bar that served generations of patrons in Flagstaff. After more than 80-years, this roadside attraction had become an icon along the historic Route 66 Highway, attracting tourists and locals alike who were drawn in by its history as well as karaoke and dime beer nights. Known by locals as "The Zoo," the venue played host to live country music and line dancing, all of which took place under the watchful eyes of wildlife mounts. most of which have been there since day one.

Based on the Spanish market release of the 1978 film, Every Which Way but Loose, this one is a truly unique piece of cinematic history that you won't likely be running into many people wearing. De todas maneras pero suelto!

Taxco is a town in the state of Guerrero, southwest of Mexico City, famed for its silver jewelry production and Spanish colonial architecture. Plaza Borda, the main square, is home to the landmark 18th-century Santa Prisca church, with stone towers and a rose-colored facade in elaborate churrigueresque style. A lesser known Taxco landmark is a tavern known as El Hombre Misterioso (The Mysterious Man) was established in 1895, and for over a century, was Taxco's most popular watering hole, treating locals and travelers alike to cold beers, regional tequilas, and authentic Mexican meals.
